Get startedUsed either as a specialist summer-safe pasture or as a component of perennial ryegrass pasture, cocksfoot is highly tolerant to dry conditions. Once established cocksfoot has strong resistance to pest attack due to its dense root system. Dry matter yields from cocksfoot can be similar to those of perennial ryegrass, however, it’s growth during hot seasons is typically better than that of ryegrass in dry conditions.

Grazing management and nutrition
Although cocksfoot has low winter performance, strong dry matter yields and high palatability are achievable throughout summer if good management practices are implemented, making it useful for persistent permanent pasture in dry conditions. To maintain a quality cocksfoot pasture, grazing at the 4-5 leaf stage is recommended.
