One of Plant Breeding and Research Association’s (PBRA) most important activities is the agronomic trialling of new ryegrass varieties. The outcomes of these trials provide you with key information to help you select the cultivars most suited for your specific farm environments, systems and objectives. Here you will find the latest results for forage ryegrasses.

Perennial Ryegrass 2025-2026 trials

Perennial ryegrass trials are run for three years, with research showing little difference in the relative yields of the cultivars beyond this point.

Hybrid Ryegrass 2025-2026 trials

Hybrid ryegrasses produce similar total yield, or higher, than perennial ryegrass, but exhibit higher cool season production. Hybrid ryegrass trials are run for three years.

Italian Ryegrass 2025-2026 trials

Italian ryegrasses are tested for 18 months within the NFVT system, from sowing in autumn until the following September.

Annual Ryegrass 2025-2026 trials

Annual ryegrasses, valued for their quick establishment and high winter and early spring growth, are measured within the NFVT system from sowing in autumn until the end of the following February.
